Students explore the dance concepts of self-space, general space, and shape. They analyze what makes a verb vivid, and use vivid verbs to describe the actions in photos of professional dancers. Next, they generate ideas by brainstorming a list of vivid verbs. In a small group, students choreograph a Two Vivid Verbs Dance by selecting a general and a self space verb and adding a beginning and an ending shape. They notate and perform their dances. Finally, students reflect by describing the dances using vivid verbs. Designed to be taught in a sequence, this is lesson 1 of three: 1) Two Vivid Verbs Dance, 2) Describing Mirror Dances (Level), 3) Smooth and Sharp Class Cinquain Dance.
